The Ladder Climbers
If Lightning Strikes
The finial is a crowning ornament. It covers that lightning rod and makes it all pretty.
The lightning rods were in place before the steeple was set in place. The additional rod you see sticking straight up was applied after the roof was finished.
The lightning rod rope runs down the side of the building and is buried 10 feet into the ground.

A Pie Yarn
This month marks the official end of our Pie Journey. Pies will still be made. I have some ideas up my sleeve already for my next few pies. It has been fun. At times maddening. I was even in a pie slump for a few weeks, but I persevered and pulled out of it.
I made about 26 pies before I felt good about it.
I am not an expert pie maker, but I am a confident pie maker.
I have found out that I enjoy making pies. It is therapeutic in a way. Rolling. Stirring. Dicing. Slicing. Boiling. Sprinkling. Baking. EATING. :) I found the most pleasure in pies that were cooked on the stove and baked. Refrigerator pies aren't my favorites. I don't mind making meringues. ( try them...they are not so scary..just takes a lot of practice-like everything).
My words of advice to you: " Don't be afraid of the pie. "
I am glad you came on this journey with me.
The same month I started the Pie thing, I started the Knitting thing.
I think I will be in my rookie season for several more years with the knitting.
But I like it and it is also, therapeutic. Wow. Apparently I need to chill.
On occasion I will post a new pie that I made and a new knitting project. Actually I have one that I want to show you right now...but I will wait a bit on that one.
Don't forget to enter the drawing...see below.

Steeple-Back in the Day
This is a photo of the church taken from our house many many moons ago. It had a steeple then, but for some reason it was taken off.

Year of the Pie Give Away
Hot Pads & Dishcloth
Hot Pads are crocheted in double thickness and are approximately 7 inches by 6.5 inches. (the same kind I use to remove pies from the oven--- :) )
Dishcloth is knitted and is approximately 12 inches square.
They are 100% cotton.
I would love to share them with you.
So here are the rules.
You need to comment on this blog and list 10 pies that I have made in this past year. Any ten will do. Listing ten pies will get you entered for the hot pads.
Listing ten pies AND naming the pie ingredient that I detest will earn you an entry for the hot pads AND the dishcloth. About half of the pie entries are here on this blog and you can find the rest here at Watalulu. Click on the categories "In The Kitchen OR Year of the Pie"
The drawing will be quite fair so anyone can enter, that includes family members.
Margaret won't enter, but she will be helping be with the drawing.
I know the prize is not fancy, but they were crocheted and knitted by yours truly.
I know you will love them as much as I do.
I will keep this drawing open til July 24, 2010- 4 p.m.
I will post the winner's name here on that evening. At that point you will have to tell me how to get a hold of you.
The comments won't be published-until later.

Year of the Pie - Pie #52 Strawberry Rhubarb Pie
The last pie of our adventure is Strawberry Rhubarb.
I prefer a 'straight' rhubarb pie, but strawberries WERE on sale and it just seemed like I needed to make one because I never have.
It was a happy pie to make.
I like the colors.
Get your crusts ready.
Here are the ingredients.
1 1/3 C. sugar
1/3 C. flour
mix these together
2 heaping C. sliced strawberries
2 heaping C. rhubarb
mix these together
2 T. butter, diced small
Pour 1/2 of the strawberry/rhubarb mixture into the shell.
Sprinkle 1/2 of the sugar/flour mixture over it.
Pour the rest of the strawberry/rhubarb mixture over that and then sprinkle the rest of the sugar/flour mixture over that.
Dot with 2 T. butter.
Attach top crust. Place some steam escape holes.
Bake for 40-50 minutes at 425°

I just tasted it and it is kind of good. :)
I will be posting VERY soon about the hot pad/dishcloth drawing. So stay tuned.
