Apple Crisp

It is that time of the year again.
We drove to the orchard on Saturday and fetched a bushel of
Cortland apples. I like them. They are good to eat and bake with.
I plan on canning applesauce and um...let's see, oh pies! Yes that's it. Pies.

I made this dish for a funeral dinner Monday.

Here are the guidelines:
Mix 1/4 C. sugar and 1 tsp. cinnamon in a bowl. Mix in 5 peeled, sliced & cored baking apples.
Place in an 8X8 baking dish.

In another bowl mix: 1 C. flour, 1 tsp. baking powder, 1/2 tsp. salt & 1 C. sugar.
Cut in 1/2 C. cold butter until crumbly. Spread over the apples and press down a bit to smooth it.

Slowly pour 1 C. of water over the top and sprinkle with 3/4 tsp. cinnamon.
Bake uncovered 40-45 minutes at 400 degrees.

  1. Louellen: I will be getting apples for sauce soon as well! Hey, I checked with my knitting/spinning/felting friends today at the fair and they thought that stitches shouldn't show when felted. I guess I wasn't too successful on some of my felting if that's the case! Maybe it's an opinion, I'm not sure! I do know that things will shrink much more lenghtwise than width wise when felting. Learned that the hard way!
