My Red Christmas Socks!

I finished my Christmas socks on New Year's Eve. I didn't anticipate it taking so long. The Cascade Heritage Paint sock yarn hank just has a lot on it!!! But it was worth the extra time to knit. They are actually just above my calf....knitted 'just so' so they will fit over said calf without cutting off my circulation!

These Socks Fit Like A Glove

The orange socks have finally been liberated from the needles....they had been on them since January! Yikes.
Custom made for a pair of little lady legs, they fit like a glove.
Today we had a heat advisory 97° plus humidity. Not the best day to model wool socks, but she humored me. You know how it is...when you finish a project you want to take a picture! :)
Come this winter....her legs will be toasty.

Orange Socks Update

Just need to knit up over that skinny knee and the socks shall be complete.
It has been a bitter (destructive tornadoes in the South) sweet (the Royal wedding) week. Looks like the sun is gonna shine today. Rain again tomorrow possibly :(

Orange Sock Update

The orange socks are still coming along. I purchased two more skeins to continue on up the calf, over the knee. I haven't ventured too far into patterns or different designs on my socks. I like to keep them on hand for 'mindless knitting'. :)

The orange-ish socks are coming along great. They have been crafted to fit Margaret's feet almost perfectly.....it only took six other pair to get it right. :)

Ugh, round two

We have had an onslaught of ice pellets since mid-day...it is now close to mid-night. Still more to come....blizzard like conditions are here.

On a happier note, we have not lost power, PTL.
Another happy note: knitting is progressing nicely and Margaret has successfully finished her Baby Surprise Jacket, with only buttons to go and a little sewing up of the shoulder seams. She has had a time with this project, lamenting that it was her first AND last, but after completion, I think she fell in love with it and is not so bent on never making one again.

Socks Are Done

Remember my weekend when I knitted and made applesauce?
The socks are done.

I did a sewn bind off on these. I am going to take out the bind off on Chris' socks and do it with this technique. I like it a lot. It has a bit more stretch.
It was a nice afternoon yesterday...just like it has been for EVER.....I am not complaining really, but we need a little rain. I sat out at the picnic table and bound off and listened to a plethora of birds. It was peaceful.

They are the same size, even though the one on the bottom looks bigger. (camera angle)
Each sock took one skein of Patons Kroy Socks FX yarn. They are not real thick and they are not real thin....they are cozy and comfy. Now we need cold weather....but I can wait on that. :)

The Socks Have a Home

I finished the socks.
They are too big for me and as I was nearing completion I told my husband I was going to rip them out and start over in a smaller size.
Even though I had tried them on him several times as I knitted them, he didn't express a GREAT interest in having them be HIS socks. So I thought....rip them out and start over. He was to have none of that. He would wear them. He would wear them with his work boots. They come an inch or two above the boot. They will look just fine when he wears his long pants. (they will be covered).
The shorter cuff is good for him. Two and a half years ago, he was struck down with MRSA. (methicillin resistant staphylococcus aureus) in his right knee. Twelve days in the hospital with clindamycin and vancomycin continuously alternated, two leg operations, 30 days of oral antibiotics after he got home left him with the desire not to have anything too tight on his calf.
Thus the short cuff-how wonderful!
So here they are. I washed them but didn't block them so they may look a bit funny. The cuff "LOOKS" tight, but it isn't.

I understand that they wouldn't be exactly the same, but the striping seems to be more like cousins than brothers. :(

Practice Socks

Well, I couldn't stand it any longer. I had to find out what this magic loop two at a time sock knitting was all about.
On inter library loan I checked this book out.
Found it quite interesting.
Splurged and bought it along with a pair of 40 inch circular needles.

The book has you make a sample pair of socks. Each sock with a different color so you can follow the instructions for sock A and sock B without confusion.
I just grabbed some spare yarn and started. The purple yarn was much smaller than the multicolored yarn, but I didn't really think about how much of a difference the yarn size would make....I thought they were fairly close in thickness.....but I was wrong.

It took a few tries to get the cast on correct, as well as, the heel, but I got through it.
I still need practice on a few stitches.
Anyway, here is what the little fellas look like.

With bigger needles and wool I plan on making Chris a pair for wintertime. He will be my guinea pig.
