Tegna

After realizing the first attempt was enormous,  I reknit with 80 fewer stitches. So 300 stitches on size 8 Chiaogoo needles.  I purchased the needles in Ft Collins CO.
This is my attempt at Tegna.
I switched to size 7 Knit Pro Zing for the body.
I am knitting the second size on the pattern.
Knit Picks Gloss Fingering-Blackberry (edging)
Knit Picks Gloss Fingering - Sterling (body)

 Knit for 15 inches.
Next is to divide for front and back.
11.16.19-sweater has been finished for awhile.  Haven't worn it yet.  I don't love the yarn. 😬😕
I may try it next Spring with leggins.  Imade it tunic length.

...journey of a hat, part two

This hat was great fun to knit.  The pattern repeat was fun.   It's my first hat that I didn't do a 2 x 2 ribbing.  It fits great and is cozy on my head.   The tassels were fun to make.  I had never made the kind that you twist to create, which makes perfect sense.  I purchased the pattern on Ravelry and you can too.  It is called Norby.  It's hard to put down once you start.  Give it a try.  It's fun AND easy.   Disclaimer.  It may not be as fun on commercial store bought yarn.  Just sayin'.

....journey of a hat, part one

Three ply.
It's more than blue.

Gave it a bath.

Hmmmm, it left a little color in the water.
My new favorite thing!   I have learned to make a center-pull ball of yarn.
It is fantastic!  Your yarn doesn't roll all over the place.  It just sits nicely next to you while you knit away.

...stripey?

I met a fellow knitter while helping my husband one day.  She shared the pattern for a neat little easy scarf she was making.  I find it a good 'take with me' project.   I am looking forward to wearing this around Christmastime.   I am thinking of turning it into a moebius.  The pattern is on my Ravelry page.

Stitch Markers

My daughter and I were away from home when I started this mitten. I didn't realize I needed stitch markers. I have used waste yarn before in a pinch. When I mentioned that I needed a stitch marker she handed me her ring. I used it for the first one and I used my wedding ring for the second one. A fun temporary fixed.

Until Next Time.

The Purple Cardigan

A month ago I didn't feel like knitting.
A few days after I left the hospital I started my first top down cardigan. I finished it yesterday and it is blocked and drying right now. It knit up fairly quickly. I did my first steek. A little scary but after viewing a few YouTubes on the subject, I went to work. It wasn't so hard. It has a pucker at the top that I must eliminate next time. I was able to use up some buttons that I bought a while ago just because I thought they were neat. Not until my husband saw them did I know that they represent Indian Head or Buffalo Nickels. I alternated them. So here is the sweater....just in time for our trip this Thursday to Wheaton, Illinois. We are going to the Family Economics Conference.

I Didn't Feel Like Knitting

A week ago today my sister came and got me and took me to the Emergency Room.
Symptoms from the night before and then while speaking with her on the telephone made her jump into action. My symptoms were of the heart attack nature.
She drove over as fast as she could, wishing she had just called the ambulance..because "what if she was too late?" She is so nice!
So, by the grace of God I did NOT have a heart attack. After monitoring me all day they transferred me by ambulance to a hospital in Ft. Wayne. A heart cath. was in order. They wanted to have a look see. It reveals a 85% blockage in the smaller left artery. The doctor put a stent in. I went home the next day via my other sister's chariot.
While having never lost consciousness, I sometimes wish I did. The nitro drip gives a terrible head ache.

My symptoms: @ a week before the 'real' symptoms began I didn't fee like knitting....should have known something was up! The night before I had a big pressure type push on my chest that lasted just a second or two. Sweaty/clammy/light headedness.....yuk. So why did I wait til morning? Don't ask me? I could be a little stubborn. The next morning .....a weird overall feeling, grogginess, light headedness, .... JAW pain.

I am not an expert so listen to your own body when deciding when to go to the hospital. Familiarize yourself with the symptoms of heart attacks. Men and women's heart attack symptoms are different.

So....anyway...a few nights ago...I cast on for my first cardigan sweater. Knit Picks Indigo Heather Tweed. It is soft. Worsted weight. It is knit from the top down. I realized last night that I don't really like knitting back and forth in rows...I believe I shall join it in the front and then steek it when it is done....it would be my first steek too. Might as well give it a go! If this works out well, I really want to make one in un-spun Icelandic wool.

It is really prettier than this.

Until Next Time.

The Stripey Hat Revisited

See this Stripey Hat?

I had originally tagged it for charity. I showed it to Chris just in passing, during our whirlwind weekend. I told him it's destination. He said thought it would really look cute on one of the grand boys. Margaret and I had knit the older three hats a couple years ago and I didn't even imagine that this would fit the youngest -9 month old. So we took it to see if it would fit .
We could not get over how cute it looked on the him. He is absolutely adorable anyway and then the hat just put everything over the edge!

A Stripey Hat

I am still knitting the red socks. I took a break and knit this little hat. Cute enough isn't it? It will fit an older child I think.
It doesn't have a recipient. Nor does one of the EZ heart hats that my daughter made. The brown tweed wool hat I made last winter needs a home as well.
Well, I am not the brightest crayon in the box.....so it took me a bit to decide what to do with these hats. Give them to charity Lou. I read an article about orphans in a far away land and how a couple of ladies started a charity to collect knitted hats, gloves and scarves.
So into the charity box they go.
I will be able to post a picture soon of the beautiful red socks that are currently on my needles.
My Christmas present this year....is about 5'11'' and will be walking through back door in a day or so.......but he will only be here for a little while and we have lots of family to visit while he is here.

Oh and just to fill you in on the picture.....the musical one in the house is Margaret.
Keeping my eyes peeled for a used accordian.....she is quite intrigued by them.

Nickel-Plated Needles....ooooo aaaaaaaa

When I started knitting a few years ago I always used bamboo needles. After I knit for a couple more years I still loved the old bamboo. I used the Knit Picks Harmony 40 inch circulars for my two at time socks and liked them on TON! But out of necessity one day I knit with a metal needle and thought " wow they are neat!" They were smooth and the fiber slipped more effortlessly from needle to needle.....
So....I ordered the nickel plated #2 circulars for my two at a time socks and fell in love. ~It was love at first stitch~
I then decided I should have MORE nickel plated needles. Since I will be knitting some hats this fall/winter I purchased a pair 16 inch circular #8's.

Got them in the mail yesterday....aren't they cute?

Here they are liberated from their package.

But this hurt a little bit.

~happy knitting to you~

Getting Caught Up

It has been awhile since I have shown some knitted items here.
I finished some socks.

I finished the hat made of pencil roving (?).

Made a muff out of it as well. This wool knits up nice and thick, but feels light. I knit this with the idea in mind of sitting and riding in the truck on a cold winter day....with warm hands. We'll see if it works.

To have something to knit during down time in the truck with my husband I knit this little mistake ridden hat. It shall be put to good use come colder weather.

Until next time....

Needle Storage and Mystery Wool

I have been knitting two years now.
I have also been struggling with how to store my circular needles.
I have tried keeping them in their respective packages...NOT.
I have tried keeping them separated by size in ziplock baggies....um NOT.
I have tried just keeping them all in a big giant baggie all mixed up....NOT.
Well just the other day....I was still trying to figure out how to make the storage of said needles easier.
A little container that we have had for home education is no longer needed for pencils and 'wotnot'. Well surprise! Circular needles fit in the drawers wonderfully.
I made a drawer for small, medium and large needles and so far......it works great.

So having conquered the needle problem I decided to attempt to knit with some mystery wool.
I bought this wool at my first fiber fest about a year and a half ago. I don't know the type of wool, but it IS wool. I believe it is in the 'wheel' shape and I am pulling it from the middle. I can pull the wool completely apart at 4-5 inches but can't at 1-1.5 inches. It is woolly but not itchy and quite soft.
I decided to use it to knit up a basic hat from Elizabeth's "Knitting Around". Of course I shall share the finished product soon.
** if anyone can give me more info on the wool I would appreciate it**

Until next time.
