Between the Garages

My husband's job yields many long pieces of wood and pvc pipe.  The garage is just too small to fit everything in.  A huge pile of his stuff has been sitting out back covered with a tarp for a couple weeks and thankfully no one has bothered it.  It mustn't have looked too enticing.  This weekend he worked and worked trying to get the garage cleaned out and organized while also trying to figure out where to put the 'outdoor' stuff.
Well here it is, so far.  The block garage is the neighbors, who seemed quite interested in the little scrap box of copper Chris had.  So Chris decided the little scrap box of copper would live in the garage until he got to the recycling center.  :)  So between that garage and our house is a space that he blocked off from the alley in the back.  He is keeping the grill and lawn mower and outdoor things there.  But, he was a tad perplexed about the long pieces of wood and pipe.
Margaret, Molly and I went out to visit my Mom and sister and honestly we weren't gone but an hour or two and when we got back he had put together that awning.  It is really sturdy and will keep water off the more important items. It has a dedicate ledge for long pieces of stuff.  The best part is that he used what was in his arsenal of supplies to create it.   I guess our motto could be:  It ain't gotta be pretty, just functional.  Ha.   He has a few more tricks up his sleeve on finishing up the back outside area and I am quite looking forward to it.
Inside?  The pantility is starting to take shape since he has his garage in order.  (one has to walk through the pantility to get to the garage).  He added a few more shelves and Margaret and I need to get busy and prime those as well as  a few pieces of wood in the bathroom.
Here is Margaret and Molly out for a run at my mom's place.  My sister's house is there in the background.  Notice the brown grass....not much rain around here.
But it DID rain early this morning....hopefully it will perk everything up a bit.   Chris got his awning done just in time.  :)

We walked to church this morning...straight down this alley, til you can't go anymore, which is three blocks.  lol  We live on First St. and the First Baptist Church is on Fourth St.   It's right past the CVS parking lot.  We were visiting this church because it's close and someone said the preacher was 'good'.  Both were true.  Below is a picture of Chris at the front door.  If I understand correctly, those pillars were saved from being torn down with the church across the street (CVS parking lot) and a local businessman...helped finance the move to this church....
Margaret went to church with us too.....she conveniently hid behind the pillar.  If the above pic was taken with a better camera...it would reveal these pillars.

It's Gonna Be Hot-Melon

It's gonna be hot here in Indiana the next three days.  It was pretty warm yesterday.  After working with Chris, laying and cleaning and grouting and cleaning and cleaning and cleaning tile on the customer's floor and walls....I needed cool food in my belly.  So Margaret and I scooted off to Meijer and picked up some happy food for the weekend.  One was this watermelon.   He was flailing around so bad in the back of the Tahoe that we had to put him in his own seat.  We did this before with a pumpkin who was suicidal.

I prefer seeded melons...this one is seedless.  Seems like they don't taste as good as the seeded ones.  I hope it is good.

The Dirt-Colored Floor

I like our dirt-colored kitchen floor to a point....it's pretty when cleaned....but still shows "white" dirt.  Ugh.   I armor-all the truck last week and had these wipes left over.  The floor instructions say to clean with a vinyl cleaner.....so I used the knees God gave me and got down and wiped the floor....it's nice...but a little slippery...so I may have to come up with a different plan in the future.  But for now it looks OK and smells like a new car.  lol

Happenings

We have been in the house @ 2 1/2 weeks now and we have been busy ,busy, busy.   We got everything moved over to our new house and then had to go back and clean the old house, had a rummage and then moved more stuff over here that was in the garage, like my husband's tools.  There are a lot of tools.  There is not a lot of space for them.   We are still in the process of getting everything organized.    In addition to that he has been working his regular job as well.  He has two bathroom remodels in the makes.  Margaret and I have been helping him as we can.      One of the little perks of living where we do is that we can take advantage of the Riverwalk that the city has here along the Mississinewa River.    One evening we took our first stroll and here are some pics.

A statue dedicated to the Battle of the Mississinewa during the war of 1812 is along the walkway.
We walk by the hospital.

When we left our home in Jalapa, we left behind some "Remember Me's"   Earl Lawson wrote his name in concrete in 1967 in the garage.  He is Chris's uncle.   My daughter and niece left their "RMs" in the patio in 2006.

Decisions

The daisies that I posted last.....are still looking great.  It is hard to believe.   Same daisies...I only added water.
The kitchen is coming along.  It is functional.
I wasn't sure what color to paint the walls (and leave the shelves white).  But this week in Indiana the weather has been stellar and the sky so very blue and pretty.  I thought to myself....I would love to have the kitchen sky blue.  I thought it would be easy to go fetch some sky blue paint samples.  Well I gathered several sample and held each one up to the sky in the parking lot at Sherwin Williams.  No matches.  Not even the samples from Lowe's were much help.  They did have a few which were "close"....and I have them hanging off of the shelf to see which one I love the best.  I like all three equally.....hmmmm. Decisions. Decisions.  In the meantime Margaret and I have been knitting colorful dish clothes to brighten the place up a bit.  I usually keep the scissors in the drawer.  "Someone" hung them there, I put them in the drawer, "someone" hung them there, I put them in the drawer...repeat again.  So I got the hint that "someone" thinks they should hang there.  So since "someone" worked so hard getting the kitchen put together....I believe I shall leave them there, as you see it.  :)
Until next time.

Something besides the HOUSE

My daughter's sister in Florida is having a baby boy very soon.  While this hat is for a larger infant it may come in handy just in time for a cooler month or two down south.   It is knit from the Elizabeth Zimmermann pattern.   My husband brought this styrofoam head back from New York.  It seems to be an adult small or smaller.  This infant hats blocks out nicely on it.  As for pic of our county courthouse...Ha....I can't get it to go away or type what I want to where I want to.  So just know that I wanted to share a bit of Indiana with you.

Pantility Update update.

Everything looks slanty in this photo, but it isn't.  Shelves will go below in between the cabinets and a little 8 inch shelf on the left of the wall cabinets.  Starting to come together.

Pantiility Update

The pantility is coming along quite nicely.  Looky here.

These cabinets were here when we got the house.  So was the red stain...so in keeping with our theme of "Keep it Cheap"  (inexpensive) we used them both.  We are also leaving the grey wooden wall as is.  The new wall that Chris made will be painted a shade of grey. The fella we are buying the house from had painted the outside of the house and there was a lot of left over paint...in the basement that color.  So.....grey it is.

Bathroom Update

Although we have no water yet, the toilet and faucets are in place for such an event.
This toilet caught our eye because it has a water saving feature, which translates not only to saving water but to saving $$$.  The two buttons on the top are for flushing.  The left one is for - let's say "liquids" and the right one for - "solids".   I am looking forward to seeing how this lives up to the claim.

Kitchen Update

The kitchen is coming along.

Flooring - Upstairs

Here is what the flooring looks like.  We like it alot.
